The DFA membership invites researchers of Dillman, Tillman, Stillman and other spelling variations to our Association. As a member of the DFA you will receive our quarterly newsletter and be the first on your block to learn of our upcoming events. Deduced Ancestral Haplotype (DAH)

DAH is the most likely set of DNA marker values for the Most Recent Common Ancestor for a particular cluster of results. The DAH is arrived at through triangulating the different values for the participants taking into account their line of descent from the Common Ancestor.

Null Marker Value

A value “0” for any marker indicates that the lab reported a null value or no result for this marker. All cases of this nature are retested multiple times by the lab to confirm their accuracy. Mutations causing null values are infrequent, but are passed on to offspring just like other mutations, so related male lineages such as a father and son would likely share any null values.

Haplogroups


FamilyTreeDNA.com, the testing lab for the Dillman DNA project, has provided the Dillman Family Association permission to use their Haplogroup chart (this is a very large *.pdf file -please be patient as it loads slowly) descriptions which is determined by the individual’s haplotype results from the Y-DNA test.   • G: Wikipedia states “Various estimated dates and locations have been proposed for the origin of Haplogroup G. The man who developed by chance the M-201 mutation of haplogroup G would not know that anything was different, and it probably took some time before the descendants of this M-201 man dispersed to different locales. The father of the man who mutated belonged to haplogroup F, and other mutations off of haplogroup F may not have then yet occurred. The earliest authoritative comments about the origin of G suggested the mutation took place in the Himalayan foothills in Pakistan or India. While not addressing locations, the 2007 pre-publication of the Y chromosome consortium (YCC) report assigned the origin of G to 20,000 years ago. The National Geographic Society places haplogroup G origins in the Middle East 10-20,000 years ago and presumes that people carrying the haplogroup took part in the spread of the Neolithic. Two scholarly papers have also suggested an origin in the Middle East, while differing on the date. Semino et al. suggested 17,000 years ago. Cinnioglu et al. suggested the mutation took place 9,500 years ago. The latter date, however, is probably too recent because a skeleton found in Alaska belonging to haplogroup Q (another haplogroup branching off haplogroup F) was radiocarbon-dated to 9,200 years ago. The oldest skeletons confirmed by ancient DNA testing as haplogroup G men date only from the 7th century C.E. as found in present-day Bavaria, Germany.”
    • G2a: This lineage may have originated in India or Pakistan, and has dispersed into central Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. The G2a branch of this lineage (containing the P15 mutation) is found most often in Europe and the Middle East.
    • G2a3b Wikipedia provides “The SNP that defines this group was identified only in mid-2009 at Family Tree DNA, handicapping the ability to describe the features of this group. Initial testing seems to indicate this is a significant G group. Samples from persons with British Isles and Turkish ancestry have been identified. “
  • I: Haplogroup I indicates the most probable Haplogroup utilizing Whit Athley’s Haplogroup predictor based on the available markers would be I1c, I1a or J2. Haplogroup I includes the first two and J2 is a close relative. For convenience until a sample is upgraded to 25 or 37 markers I+ will be the designated Haplogroup for these individuals.
    • The I, I1, and “haplogroups”>I1a lineages are nearly completely restricted to northwestern Europe. These would most likely have been common within Viking populations. One lineage of this group extends down into central Europe.
    • The I1c lineage likely has its roots in northern France. Today it is found most frequently within Viking/Scandinavian populations in Northwest Europe and extends at low frequencies into Central and Eastern Europe.
    • The I2b lineage likely has its roots in northern France. Today it is found most frequently within Viking/Scandinavian populations in Northwest Europe and extends at low frequencies into Central and Eastern Europe.
  • J haplogroup is found at highest frequencies in Middle Eastern and north African populations where it most likely evolved. This marker has been carried by Middle Eastern traders into Europe, central Asia, India, and Pakistan. The Cohen modal lineage is found in Haplogroup J*.
    • J2 lineage originated in the northern portion of the Fertile Crescent where it later spread throughout central Asia, the Mediterranean, and south into India. As with other populations with Mediterranean ancestry this lineage is found within Jewish populations.
  • K2 lineage is an old lineage presently found only at low frequencies in Africa, Asia, and in the Middle East. This specific line is found at low frequency in southern Europe, northern Africa, and the Middle East.
  • O2 haplogroup has two primary lines, the 465 line and the M95 line. Both lines are found in Asia. The 465 line is at high frequency in Japanese and Korean populations and at low frequency in east Asia. The M95 line is found in Southeast Asian populations (Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and southern China).
  • R1b1 haplogroup is the most common haplogroup in European populations.  It is believed to have expanded throughout Europe as humans re-colonized after the last glacial maximum 10-12 thousand years ago. This lineage is also the haplogroup containing the Atlantic modal haplotype.
    • R1b1a2 haplogroup is the most common haplogroup in European populations. It is believed to have expanded throughout Europe as humans re-colonized after the last glacial maximum 10-12 thousand years ago. This lineage is also the haplogroup containing the Atlantic modal haplotype.
    • R1b1c haplogroup is the most common haplogroup in European populations. It is believed to have expanded throughout Europe as humans re-colonized after the last glacial maximum 10-12 thousand years ago. This lineage is also the haplogroup containing the Atlantic modal haplotype.
  • T lineage is an old lineage presently found only at low frequencies in Africa, Asia, and in the Middle East. This specific line is found at low frequency in southern Europe, Northern Africa, and the Middle East.
